Railway Recruitment Board located at Allahabad, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Chandigarh, Jammu, Gorakhpur, Patna, Guwahati, Calcutta, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Trivandrum, Bangalore, Secunderabad, Mumbai, Bhopal, Malda, Ranchi, etc. conducts recruitment of the technical categories in class III through a Civil Services examination.
The Boards advertises its vacancies generally in Employment News / Rojgar Samachar and conduct both written examinations and interviews.
All the positions are filled on the basis of written tests and interviews. Sometimes, more than one round of tests / interviews could be held to make the final selections. Aptitude and/or translation tests are held to determine the rankings in the merit list. All questions are multiple-choice objective type.
The tests are designed according to the educational standards prescribed for the post. If the number of applicants is large, qualifying tests are held in two stages: preliminary and the main.
For a very few specific categories, the written exam is followed by a viva, and for certain other categories a skills test. For categories related to operational safety, a psychological test is conducted as well.
After this, the application details furnished by him/her are verified. The successful applicants are called for counselling and scrutiny of original documents .A panel of names is then recommended to zonal railway / production unit, depending on the number of vacancies.
The candidates will be required to pass a medical examination before appointment.
