An open competitive examination will be conducted all over the country by the Staff Selection Commission on Sunday, the 15th June, 2008 for the recruitment to the posts of Statistical Investigators, Grade – III in the pay scale of Rs. 5000 – 8000 and to the posts of Compiler in the pay scale of Rs. 4000 – 6000 in 35(approx) Directorates of Census Operations, Office of Registrar General of India located in various States Capitals & Union Territories. Both these posts are classified a Group “C”, Non-Ministerial posts.

2. Vacancies / Reservation

For the post of Statistical Investigators, Grade - III The approximate number of vacancies to be filled is 199 (i.e. UR – 110, SC – 28, ST- 11 and OBC – 50)
For the post of Compiler The approximate number of vacancies to be filled is 761 ( i.e. UR- 434, SC – 98, ST – 40 and OBC – 189) The vacancies indicated above may undergo increase or decrease at the discretion of the Indenting Departments
Vacancies have been earmarked for Persons with Disability (PWD). Only persons with Hearing disability (Partially Deaf) are identified as suitable category for appointment to the post of Statistical Investigators, Grade – III
Vacancies have been earmarked for Persons with Disability (PWD). Only persons with Orthopaedic Disability (OL / OA) Hearing disability (Partially Deaf) (PD) are identified as suitable category for appointment to the post of Compiler.

The finally selected candidate will be posted in various Directorate of Office of Registrar General of India in various States / Union Territories all over India.

3. Nationality / Citizenship:

A candidate must be either:

(a) a citizen of India, or

(b) a subject of Nepal, or

(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January,1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania(Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar),Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him / her by the Government of India.
