SSC - Combined Matric Level Examination 2008 - Important Instructions

Important Instructions for SSC Combined Matric Level Examination 2008:

Both the Papers (except Part A of Paper I) will be set in Hindi and in English languages only. However, Candidates will have the option to write answers for questions of Part-B(General Studies) of Paper I and Paper II (Essay) in English or any of the languages mentioned in 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India.( Refer to Annexure-X)

Candidates must indicate the medium for answering questions in General Studies (Part B of Paper-I) and Essay (Paper-II) in the Application Form otherwise their answer sheets will not be evaluated and no further correspondence will be entertained from such candidates.

2. Written Examination for LDCs (Conventional type):

Important:

Both the Papers (except Part A of Paper I) will be set in Hindi and English languages only. However, Candidates will have the option to write answers for questions of Part-B(General Studies) of Paper I and Paper II (Arithmetic) in English or any of the languages mentioned in 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India. ( Refer to Annexure X)

Candidates must indicate the medium for answering questions in General Studies ( Part B of Paper-I ) and Arithmetic (Paper-II) in the Application Form otherwise their answer sheets will not be evaluated and no further correspondence will be entertained from such candidates.

Note:

Paper I (General English and General Studies) will be compulsory and common for all the candidates for all the three categories of posts viz. Stenographers Grade ‘C’, Stenographers Grade ‘D’ and LDCs appearing for the examination.

Arithmetic (Paper-II) will be compulsory only for those candidates who have opted for the posts of LDC. Candidates who have opted for the posts of Stenographers Grade ‘C’ and Stenographers Grade ‘D’ only need not appear for this paper.

Essay (Paper-II) will be compulsory only for those candidates who have opted for the posts of Stenographers Grade ‘C’ and Stenographers Grade ‘D’. Candidates who have opted for the post of LDC only need not appear for this paper.

There will be different set of Questions for the papers on Arithmetic & General Studies for Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates which shall not have any component of Map /Graphs / Statistical Data / Diagrams / Figures / Geometrical problems / Pie-chart etc.

VH candidates shall be allowed to bring their own Tailor frame and braille slate with paper for solving Arithmetical problems.

VH candidates with 40% and above visual disability and opting for availing the assistance of SCRIBE for the Preliminary Examination will have to indicate in the Application Form, the language ( either Hindi or English ) in which the SCRIBE will indicate the replies in the Preliminary Examination and also the language and the language code( as given in Annexure-X of the Notice ) for replying answers in the Main Examination for Part B of Paper-I ( General Studies ) and Paper-II ( either Essay or Arithmetic ). If relevant information is not furnished, the candidature will be cancelled forthwith.

The Commission will have the discretion to fix a qualifying standard for the written test.

C. Skill Test (Typing Test or the Stenography Test):

Candidates, after they are declared qualified in the Main Written Examination for a particular category, will have to appear at the Typing Test and/or the Stenography Test, as the case may be, depending upon the category of the posts in which they had appeared and been declared qualified for such skill test, as a part of 3rd tier of this Scheme of examination. The details of such skill test, categorywise, are indicated below:

Skill Test for Grade ‘C’ Stenographers:

Stenography Skill Test 300 Marks 100 words per minute.

(Stenography Test will be conducted later on only for those candidates who qualify in the Written/Main Examination. Such Stenography Test will be conducted only in English or Hindi and candidates, while applying for the Examination, will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Stenography Test Medium separately in the Application Form.

Skill Test for Grade ‘D’ Stenographers:

Stenography Skill Test 300 Marks 80 words per minute. (Stenography Test will be conducted later on only for those candidates who qualify in the Written/Main Examination. Such Stenography Test will be conducted only in English or Hindi and candidate, while applying for the Examination, will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Stenography Test Medium separately in the Application Form.)

Skill Test for LDCs:

Typing Test (Qualifying in nature) – 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi.

(Typing Test will be conducted later for those candidates who qualify in the Written/main Examination.

Such Typing Test will be conducted only in English or Hindi and candidates while applying for the Examination, will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Skill Test Medium separately in the Application Form.)

Note:

If the candidates do not indicate the medium of Stenography test / Typing test at the relevant place in the Application Form, the Commission will consider English as the medium of Stenography test / Typing Test for such candidates and the candidates will not be allowed to change the medium at any stage of the examination.

All the candidates, who are required to appear for any of the above-mentioned Stenography Test/Typing Test will have to bring their own manual Typewriters at their own risk and expense.

There is no exemption from Stenography Test for any category of candidates for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and Stenographer Grade ‘D’.

16(II). Preferences of Departments/Offices for allocation(subject to availability of confirmed number of vacancies for the concerned Offices/Ministries)

The posts of LDC, carrying the pay scale of Rs.3050-4590 are expected to be located in the following areas/offices/Services:

Group ‘X’

A. Armed Forces Headquarters Clerical Service Lower Division Grade.
B. Election Commission of India.
C. Indian Foreign Service (B) Grade VI.
D. Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs
E. President’s Secretariat
F. Central Vigilance Commission
G. Directorate of Forensic Science

Note: The Central Secretariat Clerical Service Lower Division Grade is not participating in the Combined Matric Level Examination, 2008 as Direct Recruitment to the post of LDC of CSCS Cadre has been discontinued by the Government.

Group ‘Y’

Equivalent/Comparable posts in Subordinate Offices of Govt. of India located throughout India, offices of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Accountant General (Audit) and Accountant General (Accounts & Estt.) in various States, Controller General of Defence Accounts.

Grade ‘D’ Stenographers posts carrying the pay scale of Rs.4000-6000/- are expected to be located in the following areas/offices/Services:

Group X
A. Armed Forces Headquarters’ Stenographers Service Grade D.
B. Central Secretariat Stenographers Service Grade D.
C. Central Vigilance Commission
D. Election Commission of India Stenographers Grade D.
E. Indian Foreign Service (B) Grade III.
F. Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs
G. Railway Board Secretariat Stenographer Service, Grade D.
H. Directorate of Forensic Science.
I. Any other Department/Office not mentioned above.

Group ‘Y’

Subordinate Offices of Govt. of India located all over India, Offices of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Accountant General (Audit), Accounts General (Accounts & Estt.), Controller General of Defence Accounts & Any other offices/Organization not mentioned above.

Grade ‘C’ Stenographers posts are expected to be located in the following areas/cadres/Services/Offices, mostly located in Delhi/New Delhi:-

A. Armed Forces Headquarters’ Stenographers Service Grade ‘C’ (Pay-scale of Rs.5500-9000)
B. Indian Foreign Service (B) (Pay-scale of Rs.5500-9000)
C. Election Commission of India (Pay-scale of Rs.6,500-10,500)
D. Central Vigilance Commission (Pay-scale of Rs.6,500-10,500)
E. President’s Secretariat (Pay-scale of Rs.5500-9000)
F. Posts of Stenographers in other Government Departments/Organizations and Attached Offices of the Govt. of India not participating in the I.F.S.(B) / Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers Service / Election Commission of India and Central Vigilance Commission.

Note-I: The Central Secretariat Stenographers Service Grade ‘C’ is not participating in the Combined Matric Level Examination, 2008 as Direct Recruitment to the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ of CSSS Cadre has been discontinued by the Government.

Note-II: The posts of Grade ‘C’ Stenographers mentioned at (A) to (F) above, pertain to Ministry of External Affairs, President’s Secretariat, Central Government Ministries/Departments & Armed Forces Headquarters which are mostly located at Delhi.

Candidates may, therefore, keep this in mind while sending their applications for the posts of Grade ‘C’ Stenographers. No request whatsoever for posting outside Delhi shall ordinarily be entertained after selection.
