Age Limit for Railway Recruitment Board, Allahabad Exam
3. RRB Age Limit :
The age of a candidate reckoned as on 01.01.2008 must not exceed the age limit specified in the table except as provided herein. The upper age limit is relaxable as under subject to submission of requisite certificate.
( a ) By 5 years for SC / ST candidates.
( b ) By 3 years for OBC candidates.
( c ) By 5 years for persons who were domiciled in the Kashmir Division of the State of Jammu & Kashmir from the period from 01.01.1980 to 31.12.1989.
( d ) For Ex servicemen up to the extent of service rendered in defence plus 3 years provided they have put in more than 6 months service after attestation and upto the age of 40 years for reservists not employed in government service.
( e ) Up to the extent of service rendered by group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ Railway staff and casual labours / substitutes, provided they have put in minimum of 3 years of service ( continuous or broken ) subject to upper age limit of 40 years for UR candidates, 45 years for SC / ST candidates & 43 years for OBC candidates. For workers of Quasi Administrative offices of the Railway organisation such as Railway Canteens, Cooperative Societies and Institutes, who have rendered at least 3 years, service upto 5 years service rendered in such organisation subject to upper age limit of 35 years.
( f ) In case of widows, divorced women and women judicially separated from their husbands but not remarried upto 35 years for UR and 40 years for SC / ST candidates.
( g ) Age relaxation upto the extent of normal period of training will be admissible for course completed Act Apprentice candidates.
( h ) Candidates ( OBC, SC & ST ) submitting application without proper caste certificate will be treated as unreserved candidate without age relaxation and fee.
Note : SC / ST and OBC candidates will not be eligible for age relaxation wherever no post is reserved for them. However, they may apply against UR vacancies in that category without age relaxation.
4. EX – Servicemen Candidates :
4.1 This employment notice contains vacancies reserved for Ex-servicemen in certain categories which is shown against the category. In addition to vacancies reserved for them, Ex-servicemen may also apply against other vacancies for which they will be granted age relaxation and fee exemption as indicated in Para’s 3d & 7.1.
4.2 The term Ex – servicemen means a person, who has served in any rank ( whether as a combatant or non combatant ) in the regular Army. Navy or Air Force of the Indian Union but does not include a person who has served in the Defence Security corps, the General Reserved engineering force, the Lok Sahayak Sena or the Para Military Forces and
( A ) Who has retired from such service after earning his / her pension or
( B ) Who has been released from such service on medical grounds attributable to military service or circumstances beyond his control and awarded medical or other disability pension or
( C ) Who has been released otherwise than on his own request as a result of reduction in such establishment or
( D ) Who has been released from such service after completing specific period of engagement otherwise than on his own request or by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency and has been given a gratuity and includes persons of the Territorial army of the following categories :
- Pension holders for continuous embodied service.
- Pensions with disabilities attributable to military service and<
- Gallantry award winners.
Explanation : The persons serving in the Armed Forces of the Union, who on retirement from service would come under the category of Ex-servicemen, may be permitted to apply for re – employment one year before the completion of the specific terms of engagement and avail themselves of all concessions available to Ex – servicemen but shall not be permitted to leave the uniform until they complete the specified terms of engagement in the Armed forces of the Union.
Service personnels who are to be discharged from military service on 11-09-2008 ( within one year after the closing date of this notification ), are eligible to apply against this advertisement.
( E ) Ex – servicemen who had already secured employment under Central Government in Group ‘C’/'D’ will be permitted the benefit of age relaxation as prescribed for Ex – Servicemen for securing another employment in a higher grade or cadre in Group ‘C’ / ‘D’ under Central Government. However, such candidates will not be eligible for the benefit of reservation for Ex – Servicemen in the Central Govt. jobs.
Note : Matriculate or equivalent Ex – Servicemen with 15 years of active service in Armed force will be considered eligible to apply for posts for which minimum qualification is university degree.
5. Serving Employees : Candidates serving in any Government department or Public Sector undertaking including Railway should apply through proper channel or should apply directly to RRB, Allahabad with No Objection Certificate from the employer to avoid delay. The last date of receipt of application in this office will not be extended on account of any delay in transmitting the application by the concerned office. No advance copy of the application will be entertained. Application received after closing date / hour will not be accepted.
6. RRB Mode of selection :
6.1 The selection will be on the basis of 1 or 2 stages of written examination. In addition for Category No. 17 Short Hand Test and for Category No. 14 & 15 Typing test shall also be conducted.
6.2 The Railway Recruitment Board at its discretion may hold additional written test ( s ) / skill test ( s ) and / or interview if considered necessary for all or a limited number of candidates as may be deemed fit by Railway Recruitment Board. On line test through Computer may be held for some or all of the categories.
6.3 The syllabus for the written examination will be generally in conformity with the educational standards and technical qualifications prescribed for the post. The questions will be of objective type to test the candidates in subjects related to specified Educational, Technical qualifications, analytic and quantitative skills, current affairs and where specified, language proficiency ( English / Hindi ).
6.4 Aptitude Test for Assistant Loco Pilot, Cat. 23 & Assistant. Station Master, Cat. 18 will be of 30 marks only. Questions will be mainly to test the analytical and reasoning powers of the candidates relevant to the posts. For selection, marks of final written test will be converted to 70 marks base and Aptitude Test of 30 marks. A candidate is required to obtain minimum qualifying pass marks in final written test, failing which he / she would not be called for Aptitude Test. If a candidate scores less than the cut – off qualifying marks in any sub test of aptitude test he should be eliminated from the selection process. For those who qualify all the sub test the aptitude test, marks obtained in written test should be added to marks obtained in Aptitude Test to prepare a combined merit list on basis of total marks of 100. Further a candidate must obtain minimum laid down qualifying marks on aggregate of the final written and aptitude test. Candidate may take help for Aptitude Test on website http/www.irptd.org.
6.5 The date and venue of written examination and Aptitude test / type test / interview will be fixed by the RRB and will be intimated to the eligible candidates through newspaper advertisements as well as, by issue of call letters through ordinary post. Request for postponement of the examination/interview and change of centre / venue will not be entertained.
6.6 Final selection will be based on the total marks obtained in the main written examination and interview / Aptitude / type test wherever provided, plus clearing type test as required.
6.7 Finally, the candidates will be called to the office of RRB for verification of all certificates and counselling. Based on the above, the RRB shall prepare a panel of candidates and forward the same to the Railway Administration recommending their appointment. The Railway Administration shall issue an offer of appointment subject to the candidate passing requisite Medical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration. Selection of the candidate by the Railway Recruitment Board does not, therefore, confer any right to the candidate for the post.
6.8 For posts Assistant. Loco Pilot / Assistant. Station Master successful candidate shall have to undergo vision test in Railway Hospitals to verify compliance with prescribed standard. Candidates failing in medical test shall not be offered alternate appointment in any categories.
