5. Nature of Test

  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET): The PET will be qualifying in nature.
  • For male candidates: - The candidates will be subjected to a physical efficiency test consisting of the following events.

Note:-1500 Meters race is compulsory and will be organized as the first event. Only one chance well be given for 1500 Meters race and the candidates who fail to qualify in the same will be declared failed. They will not be allowed to take part in further tests. This will be followed by height and chest measurements. Those found eligible shall be tested for other events. For 200 meters race, only one chance will be given. For remaining items, viz: High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Put. the candidates will be given 2 chances each. Candidates will have to qualify in all the events to be declared qualified in PET.

Four hundred meters race will be organized as the first event. Only one chance will be given for 400 meters race and the candidates who fail to qualify in the same will be declared failed. They will not be allowed to take part in further tests. This shall be followed by measurement of height. Those found eligible shall be tested for other events. Both the events, viz., 400 metres race and Long Jump are compulsory and the candidates must qualify in both.

(2) Written Test (Maximum Marks-120)

Candidates who qualify in the PET shall be subjected to a written test. They shall be informed about the date and venue of the written examination by the Chairman, Zonal Recruitment Committee. Written examination will be of 2 hours duration and consist of a total of 120 objective type questions on OMR pattern. It will consist of questions in Genera! Intelligence, Arithmetic, Language and General Awareness. Candidates will be required to answer all the questions. The correct answer will be indicated by the candidate by shading the appropriate columns in blue or black ball point pen. The question paper will be in Hindi & English only.

The allotment of question from different streams will be as under

  • General Awareness - 30 questions
  • Arithmetic - 30 questions
  • General Intelligence - 30 questions
  • Language - 30 questions

a. General Awareness (30 marks): - Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidate's general awareness of the environment around him and its application to the society Questions will also 6e designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture. Geography, Economic Scene, Genera! Polity, Scientific Research etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.

b. Arithmetic (30 marks) :- This part will include questions on problems relating to Number systems, Computation of whole numbers, decimal and fractions and relationships between numbers, fundamental arithmetical operations, percentages, ratio and proportions, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, use of table and graphs, mensuration, time and distance, ratio and time etc.

c. General Intelligence (30 marks):- It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation,relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.

d. Language (30 marks):-The test will cover objective type questions from English or Hindi language testing of candidates understanding of the language and its correct usage.

(3) Viva - Voce (15 Marks):- Depending on merit, candidates who are successful in the written exam will be called for a Viva Voce. Only three times the number of vacancies in each category will be called for the viva voce. Due credit will be given by the Committee to the candidates during the viva voce for higher educational qualification, for having represented in sports at the national / international level or for having qualified for the NCC B & C certificates or having participated in Republic Day Parade Camps. The candidate will be interviewed for assessing his general awareness, power of comprehension, expression, personality, experience etc.

6. Medical Examination

The selected candidates will be called for a medical examination at the Railway Hospitals. The candidates will have to qualify in medical category B-l. The candidates having flat feet, knock-knee, squint eyes, colour blindness and other bodily defects are not eligible for appointment.

7. Police Verification

The Character and Antecedents of the empanelled candidates would, be verified from the Police / Civil Authorities. Candidates found not clear from the verification point of view would be discharged from service any time during training/probation.

8. Training

The selected candidates will have to undergo training as prescribed, in the event of selection. The trainees will be given stipend of Rs.5500/- per month, DA & DP as admissible under the rules.

9. How to Apply

I. The candidates fulfilling the condition regarding eligibility of age, Physical standards, educational qualification, should apply for the Post notified as per application format given in this Notice.

  • Candidates purchasing the printed application form from the market / private agencies / individuals should ensure that the application form and Annexure should conform A-4 size paper and should be exact replica of the prescribed forms.
  • Affixing the thumb impression in the application form is compulsory. The thumb impression should be clear and not smudged or blotted.
  • The application form complete in all respects along with enclosures, as applicable should be securely tagged.
  • Application should be sent by ordinary / registered post only to the respective Chief Security Commissioners on or before the closing date.
  • Before applying for the post candidates should ensure that he / she fulfills all the eligibility criteria laid down in the Employment Notice. The Recruitment Committee shall be free to reject any application not fulfilling the requisite criteria at any stage of recruitment and if appointed, such candidate is liable to be summarily removed from service.
