Indian Navy Invites Applications From Unmarried Male Candidates for enrolment as Sailors for Direct Entry Diploma Holders (3 Years) for 1 / 2010 Batch.

Course Commencing 01 February 2010.

Eligibility Conditions:

Marital Status: Unmarried male Indian citizens.

Qualification: Three Years Diploma with minimum 50% marks in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Telecommunication / Aeronautical / Ship Building / Instrumentation / Metallurgical Engineering from a Goverment, recognised polytechnic / Institute.

Age: Candidates should have been born between: 91 Feb 1988 and 31 Jan 1992 (Both dates inclusive).

Pay and Perquisites

Pay & Allowances: The Basic Pay Band is Rupee5200-20200. In addition they will be paid Grade Pay at Rupee.20007- plus MSP @ Rupee2000/- plus ‘X’ Group Pay at Rupee1400/- plus DA.

Promotion: Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer-I (equivalent to Subedar Major) with pay scale of Rupee9300-34800 plus Grade Pay at Rupee4800/- Plus MSP at Rupee2000/- plus ‘X’ Group Pay at Rupee1400/-plus DA.

Opportunities for promotion to commissioned officer also exist for those who perform well and qualify the prescribed examinations.

Perquisites: During the entire period of training and thereafter, sailors are given books, reading material, uniform, food and accommodation etc. free of cost.

Sailors are entitled to medical treatment and Leave Travel Concession for self and dependents. Group Housing Benefits and other privileges like Insurance cover.

Sailors also have the privilege to avail Annual and Casual Leave as per current regulations. Children education and house rent allowances are also admissible.

Written, Physical and Medical Exam:

Written Test: The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and of objective type. The part I question paper will have questions of English & General Knowledge, Science and Mathematics.

The standard of question paper will be that of 10+2. The part II question paper will have additional sections of Electronics, Electrical and Mechanical, The candidate will be required to attempt only one of the sections, which will be as per the specialisation in which he has completed the three years Diploma.

However, final allocation of branch will be done at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) which will be indicated in call up letters dispatched to the candidates. Duration of question paper (both parts) will be of 90 minutes.

Indian Navy Physical Fitness Tret (PFT):

  1. Qualifying in Physical Fitness Test is mandatory for selection.
  2. PFT will consist of 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 25 squat ups (Uthak Baithak) and 10 Push-ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk.

Indian Navy Medical Standards:

  1. Medical examination will be conducted by authorised military doctors as per medical standard prescribed in current regulations applicable to sailors on entry.
  2. Minimum height 157 cms. Weight and Chest should be proportionate. Minimum Chest expansion of 5 cms.
  3. Good mental, medical and physical health free from any disease / disability, likely to interfere with efficient performance of duties. Colour perception: CP II.
  4. No Cardio-vascular disease, surgical deformities like knock knee, flat feet etc. infection of ears, no history of fits or psychiatric ailment, varicose vein, corrective surgery for eye sight etc.
  5. Medical standard should be as per the detailed guidelines issued by IHQ MoD (Navy) in NO (Spl) 01 / 2008.
  6. Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned for wax and tartar removed from teeth prior to examination.

Indian Navy Visual standards

  1. Without Glasses
  1. Better Eye: 6/24
  2. Worse Eye: 6/24
  1. With Glasses
  1. Better Eye: 6/9
  2. Worse Eye: 6/12

Applicants declared Permanent medically unfit by any Armed Forces Hospital in previous recruitment for the same entry in Navy are advised not to apply.

Training and Initial Engagement

Enrolment Medical: All short listed candidates, who qualify the interview at INS Chilka, will have to undergo Final Enrolment Medical Examination at INS Chilka prior to enrolment.

Candidates found “unfit” during this medical examination will not be enrolled for training. No “appeal” is permitted after the Enrolment Medical Examination at INS Chilka.

Training: The training for the course will commence on 01 Feb 2010, with 9 weeks Basic Training at INS Chilka followed by 4 weeks of sea training. Thereafter, approx. 2 years training at INS Shivaji / Valsura.

Discharge as Unsuitable: Sailors are liable to be discharged as Unsutable due to unsatisfactory performance at any time during the training.

Initial Engagement: The initial engagement is subject to successful completion of training. The initial engagement is of 10 Years.
