Indian Air Force Senior Non Commissioned Officer Recruitment 2012

Indian Air Force invites application from young male aspirants for selection test in April 2012 to join as Senior Non Commissioned Officer in Group ‘X’ ( Education Instructor ) Trade.

1. Indian Air Force invites applications from unmarried / married male Indian citizens ( citizens of Nepal are also eligible ) for selection test in April 2012 to join as Senior Non Commissioned Officer in Group ‘X’ ( Education Instructor ) trade. The Selection Test is not for Selection as Officers / Pilots / Navigators.

Note : Married candidates above 22 years of age on the date of Enrolment in Indian Air Force are also eligible.

Eligibility Conditions

2. Educational Qualification

  1. Graduate in Arts, Commerce or Science with B.Ed degree or two years’ teaching experience in a Government Recognised School / College. Candidates should have scored a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in Graduation as well as B Ed. Or
  2. Post-Graduate in M.A English or M.Sc in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or MCA with B Ed degree or two years’ teaching experience in a Government recognised School / College.

    Note : Exact aggregate percentage of marks up to first place of decimal for all subjects as mentioned in the Marks Sheet of Education Qualification ( For example, 49.9% should not be rounded off to 50% ).

3. President, Central Airmen Selection Board reserves the right to shortlist the applications on the basis of available vacancies and number of eligible applicants.

4. Date of Birth Block :

  1. For Graduate candidates – Must be born between 01 October 1987 to 31 August 1992 ( Both days inclusive ).
  2. For Post-Graduate candidates – Must be born between 01 October 1984 to 31 August 1992 ( Both days inclusive ).

5. Medical Standards :

  1. Height : Minimum acceptable height is 152.5 cm.
  2. Chest : Minimum range of expansion: 5 cm.
  3. Weight : Proportionate to height and age.
  4. Vision : Minimum Visual Standard: Unaided 6/36 and correctable to at least 6/9 for each eye with spectacles, Dioptectric power not exceeding + 3.5 including astigmatism. Full field of vision and Defective safe colour vision CP-II/III.
  5. Corneal Surgery ( PRK / LASIK ) is not acceptable.
  6. Hearing : Candidates should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
  7. Dental : Should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and minimum 14 dental points.
  8. Health : Candidates should be free from medical or surgical deformity. He should be free from all communicable diseases and skin ailments. Candidates must be physically and mentally FIT to perform duty in any part of the world, in any climate and terrain.
    * Candidate should bring latest prescription and spectacle for corrected vision, if used. The prescription must bear the signature, stamp and registration number of Eye Specialist.

Terms and Conditions

6. Tenure & Training : Enrolled in the rank of Sergeant ( Under / Training ) for an initial period of 20 years extendable up to the age of 57 years. Initially candidates will be sent for a Joint Basic Phase Training ( JBPT ) for 12 weeks at Basic Training Institute, Belgaum ( Karnataka ). On successful completion of JBPT, candidates will be sent for trade training of specified durations. Training is however liable to be terminated at any time if the trainee fails to achieve the required standards in academics, profession, physical fitness and discipline or is found to be medically unfit. After successful completion of training, the airmen will be deployed to run training programmes at instructional schools and improve education level of Air Force Personnel.

7. Pay & Allowances : During training, a stipend of Rupee 8,750/-per month will be paid. On completion of training, the starting gross emoluments including Dearness Allowance ( DA ) at the minimum of scale of pay will be Rupee 23,526/-per month ( approximately ) {Pay in Pay Band – ( Rupee 8,690/- ) + Grade Pay – ( Rupee 2,800/- ) + Military Service Pay ( MSP ) – ( Rupee 2,000/- ) + Group ‘X’ Pay – ( Rupee 1,400/- ) + Dearness Allowance ( DA ) @ 58% – ( Rupee 8,636/- )}, which, in subsequent years, may rise up to Rupee 42,944/-per month ( approximately ) {Pay in Pay Band – ( Rupee 18,980/- ) + Grade Pay – ( Rupee 4,800/- ) + Military Service Pay ( MSP ) – ( Rupee 2,000/- ) + Group ‘X’ Pay – ( Rupee 1,400/- ) + Dearness Allowance ( DA ) @ 58% – ( Rupee 15,764/- )} depending upon the rank attained.

8. Perquisites : Perks such as Ration, Clothing, Medical facilities, Accommodation, CSD Canteen facilities, Leave ( 60 days Annual and 30 days Casual in a Calendar year as a privilege ), Education concession to children, Recreational facilities, Free transport for school going children and Leave Travel Concession ( LTC ) are also provided as per the existing rules. Notwithstanding the above, Group Insurance Cover of Rupee 25, 00,000/- at a premium of Rupee 1,730/- per month is covered for all airmen and facility of Group Housing Scheme is also extended. Other facilities by Air Force Wives Welfare Association ( AFWWA ) are also extended to the family of airmen.

9. Post-Retirement Benefits : Pension, Medical Insurance Cover, Leave Encashment, Gratuity and Canteen facilities comprise some of the post-retirement benefits. Specialized Pre-release Courses are also arranged to enable airmen to take up post-retirement careers. In addition, airmen also get relaxation in age and reservation in Government services as Ex-servicemen.

10. Promotion : Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master Warrant Officer ( MWO ). Opportunities to become a Commissioned Officer also exist for those airmen who qualify the prescribed examinations, later during their service career.

Selection Procedure

11. Written Test : Eligible candidates will be sent Admit Cards for appearing in written test scheduled to be held during the third week of April 2012 at any one of the examination centres listed at Paragraph 17. There will be two papers – an Objective type and a Descriptive type each. The Objective type of paper would cover General English, General Awareness and Current Affairs. The Descriptive type of paper would aim to test the language comprehension and power of expression. Both of the question papers will be administered in one go with duration of 40 and 35 minutes for Objective and Descriptive papers respectively. Candidates are to qualify in each paper separately.

12. Physical Fitness Test ( PFT ) : All candidates who pass the written test are to undergo Physical Fitness Test ( PFT ) on the same or the next day. PFT consists of a 1.6 Km run to be completed within 8 minutes. Candidates completing the PFT in less than 7 minutes 30 seconds will be awarded additional marks on a sliding scale. Candidates are advised to bring their sports shoes and shorts.

13. Interview : Candidates who have passed the written test and PFT will be interviewed. Knowledge of English is a prerequisite.

14. Medical Examination : Candidates who qualify in the interview will be medically examined. Medical Examination will be conducted by Air Force Medical Team as per IAF medical standards. Candidates declared Temporary Medically Unfit ( TMU ) will be required to report to the respective Airmen Selection Centre within a maximum period of 42 days for review from the date of Recruiting Medical Examination. Candidates declared Medically Unfit can avail the option for Appeal Medical Board ( AMB ) against their Unfitness by depositing Rupee 40/- in a Government Treasury / RBI / SBI through Military Receivable Order ( MRO ). The application for AMB along with original copy of MRO, Xerox copy of Unfitness Certificate and Postal Stamp worth Rupee 25/- affixed on a self addressed envelope are to be submitted to the respective ASCs for processing within seven working days from the date of issue of Medical Certificate.

Note : Candidates are advised to get tartar & stains removed from their teeth before appearing for the written test. Ears should be free of wax.

15. General

  1. Candidates must indicate three choices of the examination centre in order of preference. However, Central Airmen Selection Board reserves the right to allot any centre other than those mentioned in the application.
  2. Requests for change of examination centre or date of selection test will not be entertained.
  3. Candidates not reporting for the test on due date and time will not be accommodated on other dates / shifts.
  4. Incomplete / non-standard applications will be rejected.
  5. Candidates should be prepared to stay for the entire duration of the tests under their own arrangement. No TA / DA will be admissible.
  6. Upper age limit as on date of enrolment is 25 and 28 years, for graduate and post graduate candidates respectively.

16. Candidates discharged from the Indian Air Force / Indian Army / Indian Navy or dismissed from any Government Organisation for any reason earlier are not to apply.

17. Examination Centres : Barrackpore, Secunderabad and Bhopal.

( Note : These are likely to be activated depending upon the response of candidates and testing capacity ).

18. Application for Indian Air Force 2012 Recruitment

Application should be in A4 size paper only. Non standard application formats will be rejected. The following are to be sent along with the application :

  1. Three copies of unattested recent ( taken on or after 16 December 2011 ) passport size colour photograph ( front portrait without headgear except for Sikhs ), one of which is to be pasted on the application form and the other two are to be stapled to the top left corner of the application form.The photograph is to be taken with candidate holding a black slate in front of his chest with his name, date of birth and date of photograph clearly written on it with white chalk in capital letters. Photographs should be only on good quality of “Photo Paper” ( Six photographs required during test ).
  2. One unstamped self-addressed 24 cm x 10 cm white envelope of good quality, stapled / pinned with the application form.
  3. Attested copies of Matriculation Certificate in support of Date of Birth. Attested copies of Marks Sheet & Certificates of Educational Qualification ( in single copy ).
  4. Transfer Certificate, Son of Air Force Personnel ( SOAFP ) Certificate, NCC Certificate, and Sports Certificates are not to be attached along with the application.

19. Candidates are to bring with them the following at the time of examination :

  1. Admit Card.
  2. Four copies of their colour photograph which was submitted at the time of application.
  3. Original Matric Certificate and Marks Sheet with three copies ( photo copy ) of each for verification of date of birth.
  4. Original certificates and marks sheet of Educational qualifications ( as applicable ) as per Paragraph 2 mentioned above along with three copies ( photo copy ) of each.
  5. B.Ed Degree Certificate or Two years teaching experience certificate from a Government recognised school / college {in original and three copies (photo copies)}.
  6. NCC Certificate ( A, B or C only ), if applicable {Original & three copies ( photo copy )}.
  7. Son of Air Force Personnel ( SOAFP ) Certificate / Discharge Book, if applicable ( Original & one photo copy ).
  8. HB Pencil, Eraser, Sharpener, Gum Bottle, Stapler and Blue / Black Ball Point Pen.

    Note :

    1. Under any circumstances the candidates will not be permitted to appear in the Selection Test without Original Educational Certificates, Mark sheets, B.Ed Degree or Teaching Experience Certificate.
    2. Candidates should not bring mobile phone or any electronic device or their personal belongings at examination venue. Candidates are permitted to carry only admit card, writing material, photographs and educational certificates etc mentioned at Para 19 (a) to (h) above at examination centre.
