Become a Permanent Commissioned Officer in the Education Branch Course Commencing - July 2010

1. Indian Navy invited Applications from unmarried Male candidates for grant of Permanent Commission (PC) in the Education Branch of the Indian Navy for Course commencing July 2010 at Indian Naval Academy (INA) Ezhimala, Kerala. Candidates to fulfil condition of nationality as laid down by the Government of India.

Indian Navy Eligibility:

2. Indian Navy Age Limit: 21 to 25 years (i.e. born between 02 Jul 1985 & 01 Jul 1989; both dates inclusive).

3. Educational Qualification for Indian Navy Recruitment 2010:

  1. BE / B.Tech in Mech / Electronics / Electrical / Computer Science / IT/ Telecommunication and BE / B.Tech (Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Electrical & Communication Engineering) with minimum 60% marks Or
 
  1. A Master's Degree in one of the following with minimum 50% marks Physics (with Maths in B.Sc.), Maths (with Physics In B.Sc), Chemistry, Computer Application (with physics or Maths in B.Sc.) Computer Science (with physics or Maths in B.Sc), IT, English and History.

Note: Candidates who have not completed their Degree (i.e. appearing candidates) need not apply.

4. Indian Navy Physical Standards for Permanent Commissioned Officer

  1. Height and Weight. Minimum height Male-157 cms with correlated weight.
  2. Eye Sight 6/60, 6/60 correctable to 6/6, 6/12 with glasses and should not be colour/night blind.

6. Indian Navy Selection Procedure for PC Courses

  1. Candidates will be issued call up for Service Selection Board SSB Interview based on their performance in educational qualification. If a candidate possesses higher qualification with better percentage, his higher qualification will be considered for cut off, Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) (IHQ-MoD (Navy)) reserves the right to short-list applications and to fix cut off percentage without assigning any reason. No communication will be entertained on this account
  2. SSB Interview for short-listed candidates will be scheduled during Jan to Jun 2010 at Bangalore, Bhopal or Coimbatore.
  3. The SSB Interview is conducted over five days in two stages. Stage-I includes inteligence Test, Picture Perception test and Group discussion and is conducted on the first day. Stage-II includes Psychological Tests, Group Task and personal interview conducted over the balance four days. Candidates failing to qualify a particular stage would be sent back the same day. Successful candidates would then have to clear a special medical examination at the same venue (approx duration 3-5 days).
  4. Candidates recommended by the SSBs and declared medically fit will be appointed for training in order of all India Merit depending on the number of vacancies.
  5. Change of SSB Interview centre for interview is not permissible under any circumstances.
  6. Candidates who wish to change their SSB Interview dates, must apply to the President of the SSB Interview.
  7. No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained during the selection process.
  8. Candidates appearing for SSB Interview for the first time for this entry would be eligible free rail sleeper class return fare.

Training in Indian Navy Permanent Commission:

7. The training is scheduled to commence in July 2010.

8. Candidates, will be inducted as officers in the rank of Sub Lieutenant and undergo Naval Orientation Course at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala, followed by professional training at various Naval Training Establishments / Units / Ships.

Full pay and allowances are admissible to officers whilst under training. They will be on probation for a period of two years, during which they are liable to be discharged if their performance is unsatisfactory.

9. Only unmarried candidates are eligible to undergo training. Any candidate who is found to be married or marries while under training will be discharged. He shall be liable to refund full pay & allowances drawn by him and the expenditure incurred on him by the Government.

Duties of Education Officer

10. Education officers are responsible for Scientific and Technical instructions in Training Ships & Establishments such as Training Squadron, Naval College of Engineering, National Defence Academy, Indian Naval Academy (B.Tech Course), College of Defence Management etc.

Avenue to specialise in Meteorology & Oceanography / Naval Communications / Anti Submarine Warfare / Gunnery/ Navigation & Direction/ Hydrography / IT and M.Tech Courses also available.

Education officers will also be responsible for control and co-ordination of Schooling/Libraries/Academic facilities, Distance Education, Naval examinations (On/Off line), development of Training Design and Evaluation and Human Resources.

11. On successful completion of training you will be commissioned as Sub Lieutenant. The benefits of the life as an officer in the Navy are enumerated in succeeding paragraphs.

12. Indian Navy Pay Scale & Promotions: The promotion from Sub Lieutenant to Commander is on time scale basis and thereafter on selection basis subject to fulfilment of requisite service condition.

14. Privileges: Free Medical Facilities for Self & dependents, canteen Facilities, Entitled Ration, Mess/Club/Sports Facilities, Furnished Government Accommodation, Car/Housing Loan at subsidised rate.

15. Group Insurance & Gratuity: Insurance cover of Rs.30 lakhs (on contribution) and Gratuity will be granted to the officer as per the latest rules in vogue.

16. Leave Entitlements: On Commission, officers are entitled to 60 days annual and 20 days casual leave every year (subject to service exigencies). They are also entitled for 40% rail concession to any place and free travel (as per extant rules) for self and family. Leave during training period will be as per the Training Policy in vouge.

17. Sports & Adventure: The Navy provides facilities to pursue any sport of your liking. In addition, one can learn and participate in adventure sports, such as river rafting, mountaineering, hot air ballooning, hang gliding, wind surfing etc.

18. Physical fitness: In Naval Academy curriculum, a lot of emphasis is laid on physical fitness. You are therefore, advised to build up yourself by physical training, sport?, running, swimming, etc. so that you meet the training goals successfully.
