Become a short Service Commissioned Officer In Logistics Cadre of Executive Branch
Course Commencing – Aug 2007

1. Applications are invited from unmarried Male and Female Indian Citizens for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Logistics Cadre of Executive Branch of the Indian Navy for Course commencing Aug 2007 at Naval Academy (NAVAC) Ezhimala, Kerala.

Eligibility Conditions
2. Age: 191/2 to 25 years (i.e. born between 02 Aug 1982 and 01 Feb 1988, both dates inclusive).
3. Educational Qualification
(a) A Degree with minimum 60% marks in any of the following
  • CA/ICWA
  • BCA/MCA
  • BSc (IT)
  • Hotel Management
Or
(b) A Graduate with minimum 60% marks in any of the following
  • BA(Economics)
  • B Com
Or
(c) BE/B Tech with minimum60% marks in any of the following
  • Mechanical
  • Marine Engineering
  • Electrical
  • Electronics
  • Civil
  • Computers
  • Information Technology
  • Architecture.

Note:Candidates who have not completed their BE/B The Or Bachelor’s Degree (i.e. appearing candidates) need not apply: their applications will not be accepted.

4. Physical standards
  1. Height and Weight Minimum height for male – 157 cms and for female – 152 cms with correlated weight.
  2. Eye Sight 6/36, 6/36 correctable to 6/6, 6/12 with glasses and should not be colour/night blind.

Short Service Commission

5. Short Service Commission is granted for a period of 10 years extendable to 14 years subject to service requirement and performance/willingness of the candidate. On completion of these tenures, officers are entitled for gratuity under the extent rules. Disciplined life, leadership qualities and professional skills imbibed during the service would stand as an added advantage in acquiring second career post exit from the Navy.

6. (a) If you meet the above requirements, apply on plain A4 size paper (typed or handwritten) in the prescribed format duly completed in all respects with superscription on the envelope “Logistics Cadre – Aug 07 Course, Educational Qualification………. Aggregate Percentage………. %” are to be sent to the address given below by 20 Jan 2007. Application sent by Speed Post/Regd Post/Courier/Email will not be accepted.

(b)Application must be sent in the format given in this advertisement, otherwise it will be rejected.
(c) Application must be accompanied by attested copies of:- (i) 10th standard certificate for verification of date of birth and other educational certificates. (ii) Marks statement of all semesters/years.
(d) Application and requisite enclosures must be properly tagged/stitched by thread only. IHQ-MoD (N) will not be responsible for loss of Enclosures if sent loose.

Selection Procedure

7. (a) The candidates will be issued call up for Services Selection Board (SSB) interviews based on their performance in Degree Course. No communication will be entertained on this account. If a candidate possesses higher qualification with better percentage, his higher qualification will be considered for cut off. Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) [IHQ-MoD (Navy)] reserves the right to shortlist applications and to fix cut off percentage without assigning any reason. No communication will be entertained on this account.
(b)SSB interviews for short listed candidates will be scheduled during Jan 07 to Jul 07 at Bangalore/Bhopal/Coimbatore.
(c) The total duration of SSB interviews is of 5 days, consisting Stage I (Day one) and Stage II (Four days) Stage I Tests consist of Intelligence Tests. Picture Perception and Group Discussion Tests Candidates who fail to quality in Stage I will be routed back on the same day from SSB centre, Stage II Tests consist of Psychological Tests, Group Task Tests and Interview. Successful candidates will thereafter undergo Special Medical Examination at the same venue (approx duration 3-5 days).
(d) Candidates recommended by the SSBs and declared medically fit, will be appointed for training in order of All India Merit depending on the number of vacancies. The confirmation in the service is subject to satisfactory Police Verification Report and Character & Antecedent Certificate.
(e) Change of SSB centre for interview is not permissible under any circumstances.
(f) Any correspondence regarding change of SSB dates should be addressed to the President of the SSB on receipt of call up letter and copy endorsed to Directorate of Manpower Planning & Recruitment (R&R), Room No.204, ‘C’ Wing, Sena Bhawan, IHQ-MOD(N), New Delhi – 110011 (Fax No.011-23011282).
(g) No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained as a result of tests.
(h) Return 2nd Class Sleeper rail fare is admissible for the SSB interview, if appearing for the first time for the entry.

Training

8. The training is scheduled to commence in Aug 2007.
9. Candidates will be inducted as officers in the rank of Sub Lieutenant and undergo Naval Orientation Course at the Naval Academy, followed by professional training at various Naval Training Establishments/Units/Ships. Full pay and allowances are admissible to the officers whilst undergoing training. They will be on probation for a period of two years from the date of reporting to the Naval Academy or the date of commencement of training whichever is later, during which they are liable to be discharged if their performance is unsatisfactory.
10. Any candidate who is found to be married or marries while undergoing training will be discharged. He/she shall be liable to refund full pay & allowances drawn by him/her and any other expenditure incurred on him/her by the Government.

11. As a Logistics Officer you will be dealing with the Logistics aspects of men & material. The Logistics Officer plays a vital role in the human aspect of the Ship`s organization. A modern warship, irrespective of its role, needs a continuous supply of fresh provisions, fuel and spares for the vast array of sophisticated equipment and machinery. You as a Logistics Officer will be responsible for smooth supply of stores. 12. Promotions: The promotion criteria for different ranks is as follows:-

Qualification Pay or grant “Parachute Pay and Parachute Reserve Pay” Sea Going Allowance “Hard lying Money “Island Special Duty Allowance “Instructional Allowance “Technical Pay “Low Rate interest loan from Govt. sources for purchase of Car/Personal Computer/Scooter and Construction of House (as per applicability).
14. Group Insurance & Gratuity: Insurance cover of Rs.15 lakhs (on contribution) as per latest rules in vogue. Gratuity will be granted to the officer as per the latest rules in vogue.
15. Leave & Leave Encashment: Officers are entitled to (subject to service exigencies) 60 days annual and 20 days casual leave every year. Free travel for self and family a per rules & 50% concession by air. Leave encashment is permissible, as per the latest rules in vogue.
16. Other Benefits: Entitled ration as per scale, furnished accommodation and allied services at concessional rates, free medical facilities for self and family. Group Housing Scheme, concessional transport facilities for school going children and Canteen facilities & study leave up to two years on merit (with pay and allowances).
17. Pensionary Benefits: Pensionary Benefits such as Retiring Pension/Family Pension, Disability Pension. DCRG & ex-gratia awards etc.

Physical Fitness

19. In Naval Academy curriculum lot of emphasis is laid on physical fitness. You are therefore, advised to build yourself up by physical training sports, running, swimming, etc, so that you meet the training goals successfully.
