Indian Air Force invites Enterprising & Adventurous Indian Citizens (Men and Women) to Join the Indian Air Force as Commissioned Officers in Flying, Ground Duty (Technical) and Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branches. Registration for Online Applications will open on 03rd December, 2016 and Close on 29th December, 2016

Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 01/2017 : Courses Commencing in January 2018

Indian Air Force Online applications are invited for the courses commencing in January 2018 for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission (PC)/Short Service Commission (SSC) in Ground Duty (Technical) and Ground Duty (Non-technical) Branches.

Branches and eligibility criteria are as given in the table :

1. Branch & Course Number Flying (203/18F/SSC/M&W)

Educational Qualification : Graduates (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognized University who have attained minimum 60% marks or equivalent and have passed Maths & Physics at 10+2 level or BE/BTech degree (Four year course) or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.

Visual Standards* :

  1. Candidates who habitually wear spectacles are not eligible.
  2. Minimum distant vision 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other correctable to 6/6 only for Hyper metropia colour vision CP-1. Hypermetropia: +2.0 d Sph, Manifest Myopia: Nil, Retinoscopic Myopia: -0.5 in any meridian permitted, Astigmatism: + 0.75 D Cyl (with +2.0 D- Max) Maddox Rod Test (i) at 6 meters – Exo-6 prism D, Eso-6 prism D, Hyper-1 prism D, Hypo-1 prism (ii) at 33 cms -Exo-16 prism D, Eso-6 prism D, Hyper-1 prism D, Hypo-1 prism D. Hand held stereoscope – All of BSV Grades. Convergence – upto 10 cm. Cover test for distant and near – Lateral divergence/convergence recovery rapid and complete Radial Keratotomy (RK), Photo Refractive Keratotomy (PRK) surgery for correction of refractive errors are not permitted for any Air Force duties. Candidates having undergone cataract surgery with or without IOL implants willalso be declared unfit. Binocular Vision – Must possess good binocular vision (fusion and stereopsis with good amplitude and depth).

Age Limit : 20 to 24 years as on 01st January, 2018 i.e. Born between 02nd January, 1994 to 01st January, 1998. (Both Dates inclusive). Upper age limit for Candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable upto 26 years i.e. Born between 02 Jan 1992 to 01 Jan 1998 (Both dates inclusive).

Height & Weight : Minimum 162.5 cms, Leg Length : Min – 99 cms, Max – 120 cms. Thigh Length : Max – 64 cms, Sitting Height : Min – 81.5 cms. Max – 96 cms. Proportionate to the height and age

2. Ground Duty (Technical) 202/18T/PC/M202/18T/SSC/M&W

Educational Qualification :
A. Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics){AE (L)}.
Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four year degree graduation/integrated post- graduation qualification in Engineering/ Technology from recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines :
(aa) Communication Engineering (ab) Computer Engineering/Technology (ac) Computer Engineering & Application (ad) Computer Science and Engineering/Technology (ae) Electrical and Computer Engineering (af) Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ag) Electrical Engineering (ah) Electronics Engineering/ Technology (aj) Electronics Science and Engineering (ak) Electronics (al) Electronics and Communication Engineering (am) Electronics and Computer Science (an) Electronics and/or Telecommunication Engineering (ao) Electronics and/or Telecommunication Engineering (Microwave) (ap) Electronics and Computer Engineering (aq) Electronics Communication and Instrumentation Engineering (ar) Electronics Instrument & Control (as) Electronics Instrument & Control Engineering (at) Instrumentation & Control Engineering (au) Instrument & Control Engineering (av) Information Technology.

B. Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical){AE(M)}.
Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four year degree graduation/integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/Technology from recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines :
(aa) Aerospace Engineering (ab) Aeronautical Engineering (ac) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (ad) Mechanical Engineering (ae) Mechanical Engineering and Automation (af) Mechanical Engineering (Production) (ag) Mechanical Engineering (Repair and Maintenance) (ah) Mechatronics (aj) Industrial Engineering.

Maximum Limits of Refractive Error : Hypermetropia: +3.5 D Sph, Myopia: -3.50 D Sph, Astigmatism: ± 2.50 D Cyl Air Force Common Admission Test Online Mock Test

Visual Acuity Errors : Corrected visual acuity should be 6/9 in each eye. Wearing of glasses will be compulsory when advised.

Colour Vision : CP-II

Age Limit : 20 to 26 years as on 01st January, 2018 i.e. Born between 02nd January, 1992 to 01st January, 1998 (both dates inclusive).

Height & Weight : The minimum acceptable height for male candidates is 157.5 cms. For women candidates minimum acceptable height is 152 cms. (For Gorkhas and individual belonging to hills of North-Eastern region of India, Garhwali and Kumaon, the minimum acceptable height will be 5 cms less. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum acceptable height will be by 2 cms less. Applicable to men and women). Proportionate to the height and age.

3. Ground Duty (Nontechnical) 202/18G/PC/M202/18G/SSC/M&W

Educational Qualification :
Administration : Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Maximum Limits of Refractive Error : Hypermetropia: +2.0 D Sph, Myopia: -0.5 D Sph, Astigmatism: +0.5 D Cy
Visual Acuity Errors : A minimum to 6/9 in each eye correctable to 6/6 in each eye. Wearing of glasses will be compulsory when visual acuity is below 6/6
Colour Vision : CP-I

Educational Qualification :
Logistics : Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Maximum Limits of Refractive Error : Hypermetropia: +3.5 D Sph, Myopia: -3.50 D Sph, Astigmatism: ± 2.50 D Cyl
Visual Acuity Errors : Corrected visual acuity should be 6/6 in the better eye and 6/18 in the worse eye. Wearing of glasses will be compulsory.

Accounts : B.Com. degree (Minimum three year degree course) from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Maximum Limits of Refractive Error : Hypermetropia: +3.5 D Sph, Myopia: -3.50 D Sph, Astigmatism: ± 2.50 D Cyl
Visual Acuity Errors : Corrected visual acuity should be 6/6 in the better eye and 6/18 in the worse eye. Wearing of glasses will be compulsory.
Colour Vision : CP-III

Educational Qualification :
Education : MBA/MCA or MA/M.Sc degree in English/Physics/Mathematics/Chemistry/Statistics/International relations/International studies/Defence studies/Psychology/Computer Science/IT/Management/Mass Communication/Journalism/Public Relation with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate all paper put together in Post Graduation (Minimum two year programme) and 60% marks in graduation (both recognised by UGC/Competent Accreditation Authority).
Maximum Limits of Refractive Error : Hypermetropia: +3.5 D Sph, Myopia: -3.50 D Sph, Astigmatism: ± 2.50 D Cyl
Visual Acuity Errors : Corrected visual acuity should be 6/6 in the better eye and 6/18 in the worse eye. Wearing of glasses will be compulsory.
Colour Vision : CP-III

* LASIK surgery for all branches (Flying/Ground Duty (tech)/ Ground Duty (Non-tech) are as follows : EKT Question Bank CD

  1. Candidates who have undergone PRK (Photo Refractive Keratotomy)/LASIK (Laser in Situ Keratotomileusis) may be considered fit for commissioning in Air Force all branches.
  2. Post PRK/LASIK candidates must meet the visual requirements required for the branch as laid down in Para 3.12.5.2 IAP 4303(4th edition).
  3. The following criteria must be satisfied prior to selecting post-PRK/LASIK at the time of Air Force Medical Examination.
    1. PRK/LASIK surgery should not have been carried out before the age of 20 years.
    2. The axial length of the eye should not be more than 25.5 mm as measured by IOL master.
    3. Atleast 12 months should have elapsed post uncomplicated stable PRK/LASIK with no history or evidence of any complication.
    4. The post LASIK corneal thickness as measured by a corneal pachymeter should not less than 450 microns.
    5. Individuals with high refractive errors (>6D) prior to LASIK are to be excluded.
    6. RK surgery for correction of refractive errors are not permitted for any Air Force duties. Candidates having undergone cataract surgery with or without IOL implants will also be declared unfit.

Note : LLB qualified candidates (after commissioning) may get an opportunity to be employed on legal duties of the IAF.

Candidates appearing in final year/semester examinations may apply for all courses commencing in January 2018 provided they fulfil the following conditions :

  1. Candidates should not have any present backlog and should have secured a minimum of 60% marks upto the last semester/year for which results have been declared at the time of online submission and at the time of AFSB.
  2. Candidates should be able to provide provisional/original degree certificate issued by University latest by 15th November, 2017.

Type of Commission :

PC : Candidates joining as PC officers would continueto servetill the age of superannuation.

SSC :

  1. The Engagement period for SSC Flying Branch is Fourteen years from the date of Commissioning (Not extendable).
  2. The initial tenure for SSC officers in Ground Duty (Tech) and Ground Duty (NonTech) Branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to willingness, suitability, service requirements and availability of vacancies.
