IAF Air Force Common Admission Test ( AFCAT ) Jan 01/2014 for WomenAFCAT Selection Procedure for Women

Indian Air Force invites spirited and dynamic Women to join the IAF as Commissioned Officers in Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Branches. Registration for Online applications will open on 14.12.2013 and will be closed on 12.01.2014.

1. AFCAT 2014 applications are invited from Female Indian Citizens as per Citizenship Act 1955 for the following courses commencing in January 2015 for grant of AFCAT Short Service Commission for women in Flying – Technical and Ground Duty Branches.

AFCAT Flying Branch

No. 44 Short Service Commission ( 44 SSC ) Course

Technical Branch in IAF

No. 58 Short Service Commission ( 58 SSC ) Course

Ground Duty Branches in IAF

No. 46 Short Service Commission ( 46 SSC ) Course

Candidates are to apply only Online on IAF career website www.careerairforce.nic.in from 14.12.2013 to 12.01.2014. Last date for submission of Online applications : 12.01.2014.

Eligibility Conditions for AFCAT 2014

2. Flying Branch – 44 SSC Course

  1. Age : 19 to 23 years as on 01.01.2015 i.e. Born between 02.01.1992 to 01.01.1996 ( Both dates inclusive ). ( Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA ( India ) is relaxable upto 25 years i.e. born between 02.01.1990 to 01.01.1996 ( Both dates inclusive ).
  2. Educational Qualifications for AFCAT Women : Graduates ( Minimum three year degree course ) in any discipline from a recognized University who have attained minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and have passed Maths and Physics at 10+2 level or B.E / B.Tech degree ( Four year course ) from a recognized University with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together.
  3. Physical Standards in Flying Branch
    1. Height and Weight : Minimum height : 162.5 cms with correlated weight. Leg Length : Min-99 cms. Max-120 cms. Thigh length : Max-64 cms. Sitting height : Min-81.5 cms. Max-96 cms.
    2. Vision :
      1. Minimum Visual Acuity 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other, correctable to 6/6 only for hypermetropia.
      2. Manifest Myopia – Nil.
      3. LASIK surgery for correction of vision is admissible in Transport and Helicopter streams of Short Service Commission for women ( Flying Branch ) if the following conditions are fulfilled at the time of Air Force medical examination :
        1. LASIK surgery should not have been carried out before the age of 20 years.
        2. The axial length of the eye should not be more than 25.5 mm as measured by IOL master.
        3. At least twelve months should have lapsed post uncomplicate stable LASIK. No history or evidence of any complication.
        4. The post LASIK corneal thickness as measured by a corneal pachymeter should not be less than 450 microns.
        5. Individuals with high refractive errors ( >6D ) prior to LASIK are to be excluded. Candidates must not suffer from colour or night blindness.
    3. All other medical criteria would be evaluated by the Air Force Medical Authorities whose decision on the fitness would be final. Candidates who have failed the Pilot Aptitude Battery Test ( PABT ) in an earlier attempt or a Flight Cadet suspended from flying training at Air Force Academy will not be eligible to apply.

3. Technical Branch – 58 SSC Course

  1. Age : 18 to 28 years as on 01.01.2015 i.e. Born between 02.01.1987 to 01.01.1997 ( both dates inclusive ).
  2. AFCAT Educational Qualifications for Women :
    1. Aeronautical Engineer ( Electronics ) { AE (L) } : Candidates applying for AE (L) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognized university or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers ( India ) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies.
    2. Aeronautical Engineer ( Mechanical ) { AE (M) } : Candidates applying for AE (M) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognized university or cleared Section A and B examination of Associate membership of institution of Engineers ( India ) or Aeronautical society of India by actual studies.

4. Essential Subjects for Technical Branch :

  1. Aeronautical Engineer ( Electronics ) { AE (L) } : All candidates applying for AE (L) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and studied at least eight subjects out of the eighteen subjects listed below in their qualifying exam : (L1) Physics / Engineering Physics (L2) Mathematics / Engineering Mathematics (L3) Engineering Graphics / Engineering Drawing (L4) Electrical Engineering / Electrical Technology (L5) Control Engineering (L6) Microprocessors (L7) Digital Electronics / Basic Electronics (L8) Computer Networks (L9) Information Technology (L10) Network Theory Design (L11) Telecommunication Systems (L12) Electronic Circuit Design (L13) Radar Theory (L14) Switching Theory (L15) Instrumentation (L16) Microwave Engineering (L17) Antenna and Wave Propagation (L18) Electronic Devices.
  2. Aeronautical Engineer ( Mechanical ) { AE (M) } : All candidates applying for AE (M) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and studied at least eight subjects out of the eighteen subjects listed below in their qualifying exam : (M1) Physics / Engineering Physics (M2) Engineering Maths / Mathematics (M3) Engineering Drawing / Graphics (M4) Automotive Engineering / Plant Engineering / Industrial Engineering (M5) Engineering Mechanics / Strength of Material (M6) Aerodynamics (M7) Thermodynamics and Applications / Heat Power Engineering (M8) Heat and Mass Transfer (M9) Theory of Machines ( Kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery ) (M10) Fluid Mechanics / Turbo Machines (M11) Flight Mechanics (M12) Machine Drawing / Machine Design (M13) Mechatronics (M14) Material Science / Metallurgy (M15) Vibrations (M16) Workshop Technology / Manufacturing Technology / Production Engineering (M17) Hydraulics and Pneumatics (M18) Aircraft Structures.
  3. AFCAT Physical Standards for Women
    1. Height and Weight : Minimum height : Women – 152 cms with correlated weight.
    2. All other medical criteria would be evaluated by the Air Force Medical Authorities whose decision on the fitness would be final.

5. Ground Duty Branches – 46 SSC Course

    EducationPost Graduate Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.

    Note : A separate IAF AFCAT advertisement will be released for induction into Meteorology Branch as per requirement.
  3. Physical Standards in Ground Duty Branches
    1. Height and Weight : Minimum height : Women – 152 cms with correlated weight.
    2. All other medical criteria would be evaluated by the Air Force Medical Authorities whose decision on the fitness would be final. Candidates appearing in final year / semester examinations may apply provided they fulfil the following conditions :
      1. Candidates should not have any present backlog and should have secured a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together upto the last semester / year for which results have been declared at the time of Online Submission.
      2. Candidates should be able to provide provisional / original degree certificate issued by University latest by 15.12.2014.

6. AFCAT Short Service Commission for Women :

  1. The engagement period for SSC Flying Branch women is Fourteen years from the date of commissioning ( Not extendable ).
  2. The initial tenure for AFCAT Short Service Commission officers for women in Technical and Ground Duty Branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to willingness, service requirements and availability of AFCAT 2014 vacancies.
