History: The IAF was born as a tiny Flight on the historic day of 01 April , 1932 at Drigh Road, Karachi as RIAF. The Indian Air Force came into being with the Indian Air Force Act of the British Parliament with effect from 08 October, 1932. On 1 April 1954, Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee OBE took over as the Commander-in-chief and the first Indian Chief of the Air Staff.

The First Jet aircraft inducted into the air force was vampire F MK-3. Some of the earlier aircrafts used by IAF are Dakotas- Toofani - Fairchild C11g Packet- Mysteres Hunter  - Gnats - Canberras - IL 14 Bb Mi- 4 helicopters - Mi 17, Mi 26- Chetak Or Cheetah. Mi-35
AN 12 Bs. Fighters/Interceptors: Mig-21 - Mig 23, Mig -25, Mig 29- Sukhoi SU-7 BM -  Mirrage 2000 - Sukhoi- 30 - Jaguar ( Mig 25 Now grounded used for reconnaissance flight) ,Transports A/c: IL-76 -An- 32- Dornier.
