Combined Defence Services Examination (CDS)
This is an examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission.

This is the main gateway to get permanent commission as officers in all the three Defence Services. I.e Army, Navy and the Air Force.
To appear for CDSE, the eligibility conditions are

Unmarried Male Candidates

Age: 19 to 23 Years- ( Age limit may vary for Army -Navy and Air Force)

Graduate in any discipline for Army

Science back ground is must for Navy and Air Force.

Should be a citizen of India.

Physically fir.
-
Should not wear any powered glasses for Air Force (Pilot Course)
Approximate vacancies:
Army- IMA: 250 (32 Vacancies reserved for NCC "C" Certificate holders - Army Wing)
Officers Training Academy: Army - 163
Naval Academy Goa - 30 (6 Vacancies reserved for NCC "C" Certificate holders of the Naval Wing.)
Air Force - Flying Branch - 32
Number of vacancies given above is tentative and may be changed at any stage by Army HQ
Where to get the applications forms from:
Applications forma would be made available at all the head post offices of the country/as notified by the UPSC. The cost of application is Rs.20.00 and pay a fee of Rs.100 through a single Central Recruitment Fee stamp. The same is available at the post office the stamp must be got cancelled from the issuing post office
The Examination centres consists of all the state capitals and some other places as mentioned in the Advertisements (Please Ref to Employment News for the same.)
Educational Qualifications:
Army: For IMA and OTA - Degree of a recognized University or Equivalent.
Naval Academy: B.Sc (With Physics ad mathematics) Or B.E
Air Force Academy: Degree of a recognized University) With Physics and Mathematics at 10 + 2 level) Or B.E.
Note: Candidates who are studying in the Final year Degree Course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply but they will be required to submit the proof of passing the degree examination one month before the commencement of the course.
Note- II: In the event of Air Force Candidates being suspended from Flying training , would be absorbed in the Navigation / Administration /Logistic Branch of the IAF. This will be subject to availability of vacancies and fulfilling the laid down qualitative requirements (Including 60% in graduation)
Stages of Selection:

Stage I Written test

Stage II SSB Interview
a) Screening Test (Must Pass for entering into second Stage)
b) Pilot Aptitude battery Test (Given Only once in life time for all candidate appearing for IAF Flying Branch)
c) Stage Tow of Interview Psycho analyses test, GTO, and General Interview)
d)Stage Three Merit List. (On the basis of Written Examination Marks +Marks secured at the SSB Interview)
