Introduction:
The Armed Forces Medical college (AFMC) Pune, was established in 1948 for Post graduate courses. A graduate wing for MBBS course was started in AFMC on 4 Aug 1962 with the aim of inducting medical graduates to the Armed Forces Medical Services. The AFMC is affiliated to Maharashtra University of health Sciences, Nasik; and is recognized by the Medical Council of India.
Course Duration:
The duration of MBBS course is 4 ˝ years followed by compulsory rotating internship training of one year. All the students with service liability undergo internship training in selected service hospitals recognized by Medical Council of India.
Eligibility: A candidate seeking admission to the MBBS course is eligible to take the entrance examination if he/she fulfills the following conditions:
- A candidate must be citizen of India.
- Must be unmarried,
- Should be medically fit.
- Must have attained the age of 17 years on 31st December of the year of examination but must not have attained the age of 22 years on that date.
- Candidate must have passed qualifying examinations in the First attempt
( with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology,) securing not less than 60% of the aggregate marks in these three science subjects taken together and not less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in each of the science subjects.
- For Candidate who has passed B.Sc , 2 years age relaxation is permissible.
Exam Notification:
1.) Jan -Feb (Advertisement appears in the news papers and in Employment News)
2.) May Examinations conducted in all state capitals.
3.) June Result declared (Followed by Interview and Medical Check up)
Scheme of Written Examination:
The all India Competitive written examination will be of 2 hours duration and will have one paper comprising of four parts containing objective type of questions as under:-

Evaluation:
Each part comprises of 50 questions of one mark each. For each correct answer one mark will be credited. Wrong answers will have negative marks. For each wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted. Use of calculator is not permitted in the examination.
Selection:
Candidates, who are found eligible as per the criteria of eligibility, will be called at one of the examination centers to appear in the competitive examination on first Sunday of May. On the basis of their performance in the written examination selected candidates in order of merit will be called for an interview to be held in the month of May/June at AFMC, PUNE. The number of students called for interview is about 900 + (7 times the total number of seats)
Number of seats: A total of 130 students (105 Boys and 25 Girls) will be admitted. (10 Seats for SC/ST)
Syllabus:
The general standard of the entrance examination will be that of 11th and 12th class under the 10 + 2 Scheme /pre medical /intermediate science or an equivalent examination of the State Education Board/Indian University.
Service Liability:
Students admitted to AFMC for MBBS course have compulsory liability to serve as Commissioned Officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services. Only 50% medical cadets will be granted Permanent Commission (PC) and the remaining 50% will be granted Short Service Commission (SSC) on completion of their MBBS course. The choice of commission will be on merit-cum-option based on the merit at the final MBBS examination. The liability of the SSC officers passing out of AFMC to serve the Armed Forces Medical Services would be Seven Years.
NOTE: Any candidate withdrawing from the college any day after 31 July of that year will have to pay Bond money as per conditions given in Govt of India letter. The candidate/parents/guardians of the candidates are required to sign the bond agreement at the time of admission which is Rs 15, 00,000. (Rupees Fifteen Lacs ) at present.

Prospectus and application forms can also be obtained by post from Officer-in-Charge (Admission Cell) Armed Forces medical College, Pune- 411 040 on payment of Rs. 155 per copy only by Bank Draft on any Nationlised bank payable at Pune, in favour of Commandant, AFMC, Pune along with full postal address of the candidates on two separate slips of paper (Size 9cms x 5 cms) The candidate must write his/her address and name on the back of the Demand Draft. The candidate should enclose an application for obtaining prospectus and application form giving his/her particulars and address and enclose a self-addressed envelop of 11 " x 13" size and affix a postage stamp of Rs.45/-. Complete forms must reach the Officer-in-charge (Admission Cell)

50% of Medical Cadets would be given Permanent Commission Remaining 50% will be given Short Service Commission, after the final MBBS Examination. The choice of Commission will be based on the merit at Final MBBS examination. The liability of Short Service Commission Officer passing out will be 7 years.
