10 + 2 Technical Entry Army - Physical Standards:

a)Height and Weight: Minimum acceptable height 157.5 cms with co-related weight (A 10 % departure from the average weight given in the table below is considered with in normal limit.)

b)Chest: Should be well developed. The minimum range of expansion after full inspiration (Inhalation) should be 5 Cms.)

c)Eye Sight: Candidate should be able to read 6/6 in a distant vision chart with each eye, with or without glasses. The colour vision standard will be CP-III for Army. Candidate should be able to recognize Red and Green colours. Note: Candidates who have undergone or have the evidence of having undergone KERATOTOMY to improve the visual acuity will be permanently rejected.

d) Hearing: The hearing should be normal. A candidate should be able to hear a forced whisper with each ear at a distance of 610 Cms in a quiet room.

e) There should be no signs of functional or organic disease of the heart and blood vessels. Blood pressure should be normal.

f) Oral Health: This is measured in terms of Dental Points, when 32 teeth are present in the mouth; the total dental points are 22. A minimum of 14 dental points are acceptable. A candidate should not be suffering from severe Pyorrhea.

Note: a departure from the average weight given in the Table above is to be considered within normal limits.  However, in individuals with heavy bones and broad built and as well as individuals with thin built otherwise healthy, this may be relaxed to some extent on merit. Height relaxation up to 2.5 cm may be allowed where the Medical Board certifies that the candidates is likely to grow and come up to the required standard on completion of his training.

On account of lower age of candidate, a margin of up to 5.00 cm, in height , 2.5 cm in leg length (minimum) and 1.0 cm sitting height (Minimum) may be given provided it is certified by the Medical Board that the candidate is likely to grow and come up to the required standard on completion of his training.

Chest should be well developed.  The minimum range of expansion after full inspiration should be 5 cms.  The measurement will be taken with a tape so adjusted that its lower edge should touch the nipple in front and the upper part of the tape should touch the lower angle of the shoulder blades behind.  X-ray of the chest is compulsory and will be taken to rule out any disease of the chest. There should be no disease of bones and joints of the body.  S-Ray of Spine of candidates will not be carried out as a routine, it will however, be done on the advice of Surgical Specialist wherever, clinically indicated, minor congenital defects which are not likely to interfere in the performance of military duties may be acceptable on merit.
  
Some do's for the candidates before they appear for the SSB board. In order to condition your body for the tests to be conducted at the SSB and later at IMA, the candidates are advised to tone up their body. Follow the following routine daily or at least 6 days a week:

  • Jogging 3 to 5 kms, interspersed with short sprints.
  • Skipping
  • Push-ups and Sit ups (Minimum 20 each)
  • Chin Ups (Minimum 08)
  • It would of immense benefit if the candidates could learn the basics of Swimming.
  • However, non swimmers will be taught swimming at IMA. 

Training: The Total Training is for a period of 5 years. The details are as under:

a) Basic Military Training: For 1 Year at Indian Military Academy Dehradun. (Uttaranchal)

b) Technical Training: This is in two phases:

  • Phase- I (Pre commission Training) 3 Years at College of Military Engineering (CME) Pune Or  Military College of Tele Communication Engineering at NHOW  or  Military College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at Secunderabad.
  • Phase-II Post commissioning training for further One year at the same respective colleges. Candidates will be awarded Engineering Degree after successful completion of Phase II of the training.

Cost of Training: The entire cost of training including books  and reading material is borne by the Army. Cadets are also provided with Free clothing, boarding and lodging. They are also entitled to free medical treatment. Will be issue with a second class railway warrant from at the academy to their home town at the end of each semester.

Stipend /  Pay and Allowances: Cadets will start getting a stipend of Rs. 8000/- per month on completion of three years training. On completion of 4 years training the Cadets will be commissioned in the rank of Lieutenant and entitled to pay scales as admissible to the rank. 8250 - 300- 10050
        
Leave will be admissible as per rules in force from time to time. ( During training o0nce in 6 months, they would be given term break leave.)

Free medical cover is available for the cadets.

Group Insurance Cover: Army Group Insurance scheme provides insurance cover up to Rs.10 lacs on payment of one time premium of Rs. 5460/-, to the cadets from the date of joining for pre-commission training i.e for 3 years.  Those who are medically boarded out on account of disability, the disability, the disability cover provided 100 % disability will be Rs.5 lacs reduced to Rs.1 lac for 20% disability.  However disability for less than 20% an ex-gratia grants of Rs.20,000/- will be paid. There is no saving component under this scheme. Disability due to alcoholism and drug addiction will not qualify for disability benefits and ex-gratia. Premium at the rate of Rs.1000/- per month will have to be paid in advance on monthly basis by the Gentlemen Cadets.   

Qualification Pay And Grant: Officers possessing certain prescribed qualification are entitled to lump sum qualification grant of Rs 3000, 4500,7500, Or 10,000/- based on the qualification held by them.
